Planning a surprise proposal for somebody poses a set of unique challenges. She provided me with a loose list of criteria for me to meet. A good view, an intimate setting, and on a great date. I'd initially planned on asking Karina to marry me on our One-Year Anniversary, but found both that waiting any longer was far too agonizing, and the surprise would be all the better.
Karina and I had just returned from our first day at Big Bend National Park. She became distraught as she organized our belongings upon our arrival to our place of residence during our visit (as I rehearsed the things I wanted to include in my proposal to her). I decided that now was the time and proceeded to stack chairs atop one another for a good view of the chosen proposal spot. I grabbed her attention, told her that she was my best friend, got down on one knee, and asked for her to be my wife. I received a yes before the question left my mouth.

I had a feeling Austin was going to propose. We had gone ring shopping, and with our one-year anniversary trip to Big Bend coming up, it seemed too perfect. So much so that I was even documenting myself counting down the days, thinking he might propose on the trip. Then, on the drive, he totally threw me off by asking me to let him know when I'd be busy after we got back home so he could ask my parents for their blessing. And I believed him. I felt the knot in my throat and swallowed it. (After the proposal, he told me he felt so bad about saying that, but I'm glad he did).
After our first day at Big Bend, we got back to our beautiful Airbnb. I was unpacking and feeling exhausted when I noticed Austin wasn't around. At first, I was concerned, but when I called him, he told me he was on the hammock. Little did I know, he was rehearsing the words that would change our lives forever. While Austin and I were sharing an intimate hug, he began to tell me he loved me. But there was something in his voice that was different; my body fell into his arms. It was coming... AHHHHHHH!!! It took so much of me to stop jumping and screaming to let my Austin finish a sentence.
I couldn't believe my dream was coming true.
